Transylvania is mystical. And it is my birth place. The medieval homes and boarding mountains make the region feel like it’s from another world. The castle, famed for the legendary vampire Dracula, is set in the high reaching parts of the region. This makes Transylvania an ideal place to travel. 

Today I want to give you some of the best tourist tips out there for what you should do while traveling the region.

Visit the Romano-Dacian ruins

If you head toward Hateg you will discover mind-blowing ancient ruins. Once territory of the Roman Empire between 106 - 275 AD, this massive side is still well-preserved. Loaded with rich history, it’s easy to find a bus that will take you to the ruins. The site is one of the best representations in the world for what a settlement would look like.

Nomad Camp 

Every nomad should take a trip out to the Nomad Camp in Vármezo. The camp is a small village out in the gorgeous countryside of the country. It’s covered in thick forests and grass plains. You can cozy up in a unique style of camping, too. The camp has a salt bath and yurt’s with log fires. You may never be able to go back to tent camping again.

The Liars’ Bridge

If you visit Sibiu, you can see Romania’s oldest bridge made out of cast-iron. The rumor goes that if you tell a lie while standing on the bridge it will collapse. If you don’t feel like taking the risk of proving the bridge correct, head to some nearby attractions. These include an Evangelical church that dates back to the 14th-century. The church is known for Vlad the Impaler’s son being stabbed there.

Biertan

If you’re looking for a peaceful little town, find a bed and breakfast in Biertan. The Biertan is now for its ancient ties to the Saxon settlements. The town itself is old too, dating all the way back to at least 1224. As a result of the Saxon influence, many people in the town still speak German to this day.

The Home of Dracula

The Bran Castle is one that can’t be missed for obvious reasons. This is one of the biggest attractions in the country - so prepare for heavy tourist flow at times. The castle has impressive architecture, making for a intact castle. Even though the castle is known for Dracula, don’t expect any weird chills or signs of carnage. It's peaceful and quiet.

Corvin Castle

In the Hunedoara area of Transylvania, you’ll find one of the most unique castles in the world. A sturdy bridge leads up to the elongated castle, spires tower into the sky agains the green countryside. Colored roofs sign brightly against the sun. The castle, built in the 14th-century was once owned by the cruller of the area.

Transfagarasan Highway 

Are you obsessed with cars and want to make your own Top Gear? The difficult-to-say highway is filled of sharp turns that appears to come in waves against the valley walls. The road is 62-miles long and high on steep hills. If you’re not used to this style of driving, you may find parts scary. One area in particularly reaches almost a 1,000 feet above ground without a barrier.

Go For a Walk 

All the attractions above are fantastic. But sometimes, the best way to get to know the region is to simply walk it. Transylvania is made of amazing architecture and history lessons. When you go for a walk and explore, you’ll be able to find all the best places to interact with the locals. Anywhere you go you’ll find great food and spirits, medieval architecture, and the midst of an adventure.

Transylvania is one of the most beautiful regions in Europe. The villages are always worth a stop-by for good food and sightseeing. Plus, it’s affordable. You will find the region much less expensive than others, especially compared to Western Europe.
